Kiribati Island In The Sun

This is my Island in the Sun

Where my people lived on since time began

Year long they sailed on many a seas

This shore will always belong to me

Oooh Island in the Sun

Willed to me by my father’s hand

All my days I will sing in praise

Of your coral, water and shining sand

I see a woman on bended knees

Weaving mats for her family

I see a man at the waterside

Casting net at the surfing tide

As morning breaks the heaven on high

I lift my heavy load through to the sky

Sun comes down with a burning glow

Mingles my sweat with the earth below
